ONE-WEEK PROJECT FOR FASHIONING THE BREAK HALL
OF THE SCHOOL COMPLEX ON THE "WALLER RING" BREMEN
We started off with basic ideas about the reorganization of the break hall. A "chill-out-zone" and a cafeteria
were created by replacing and developing installations. A new floorcovering was part of the plan as well.

The goal of this one-week project was to find a satisfying concept of colours which would deal with the weak
points of the room, and emphasize the newly created areas.

Participation of the pupils was one of the most important factors during this process. That's why we chose
areas that could be fashioned by the pupils. We formed four teams which created, with the help of the team of Kreativ-Mobil, designs for the individual areas. The designs had to have a common theme.

1. Fashioning of the pillars

2. Designs for the room dividers for the "chill-out zone"

3. Designs for the concrete surfaces in the storeroom

4. "Graffiti-strips" on the central wall at the back with a kiosk and three classrooms

At the end of the week the chosen design and the works of the pupils were shown to the whole school.
All participants were present to answer the questions of their peers and their teachers.

To optimize the atmosphere of the room a new concept for the illumination was also created.
The old illumination was completely replaced by fields of light and spotlights in the ceiling and indirect lights
along the fashioned areas. This purposely diverts the attention from the ceiling to the room and its fashioned
elements.

In the second part of the project the fashioning of the pillars, the concrete surfaces and the "Graffiti-strip"
was accomplished. The pupils fashioned their areas parallel to the work of the workmen.

The official opening of the newly fashioned break hall took place on 23 March 2006 in the presence
of the senator for education, Mr. Willi Lemke.
